The UC Cows are excited to announce the appointment of Matt Barnden as the new coach leading into the 2012 Season.
After the departure of Cows Great Matt Keeley from the ranks after the clubs heroic UNI OF ORIGIN win last October the Cows faced the possibility of heading into the new season without a coach. Matt Barnden was contacted post Christmas, and locked in the deal with the club.
Barnden has had huge involvement in Rugby League since his junior days and will only take the club from strength to strength after 2011's Minor Premiership. Already a UC Ressies veteran, Barnden is joining the Cows from the Canberra comp and will bring his prowess to a club which is about to enter a new era, under new management and a fresh outlook!
President Tim Pembroke has described the signing as a huge coup for the Cows, "We're over the moon to have signed up Matty. He proved himself to be an X-factor when we claimed the Universities Cup by beating ANU & ADFA late in 2011."
The Cows will Have their first official get together at UC Ressies (UV Lawns) on Tuesday February 7th. All New Players are welcome. Arrive at 5.30 for a Meet & Greet.
Matt Barnden his making big early impressions on the cows club as the 2012 Head Coach.
With solid numbers turning out to early training sessions, the committee are planning internal trials & trial games against country NSW sides which will allow them to settle on the 2012 squad.
"The boys are looking sharp early on in the season," said Barnden, "It's good we will have a number of boys returning from last year to keep the momentum of a minor premiership going., while we are still welcoming any new guys around the uni or in canberra to come and be apart of the club"
Cows in-coming President Will Marchinton is excited by the off field development at the club and is predicitng a big year for the Cows.
"With the Uni Pub opening up, some older boys returning to the herd, plus the committee embracing new technology, the club is in a really strong position."
The cows kick off the season on April 14. Venue & Opposition TBA.
